Jain University is delighted to announce that its Doctoral Student in Psychology, Ms. Ashwini N V Ganig, was adjudged the First among the top 100 Leaders of Tomorrow for her “small big idea - FOCUS”. Ms Ashwini made her presentation with three other “Leaders of Tomorrow” on "What is the next small BIG thing?" and emerged as the winner by securing more than 50% vote among the audience. Jain University compliments Ms. Ashwini on this spectacular achievement!

Ms. Kavitha Somashekar, a Doctoral Student of Jain University, working in the inter-disciplinary domain of Public Policy and Management under the guidance of Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain University, has been selected for the NAMASTE Project Scholarship of the Erasmus Mundus European Community Mobility Programme. The Scholarship involves spending six months at the Groningen University in the Netherlands to pursue her doctoral research work. Dr. Shailaja Shastri, Professor and Head, Department of Psychology, Jain University was invited by the University of Bolton, UK to deliver two lectures on the themes "What European Psychology can learn from Indian Psychology" and "Beyond the three B’s: Books, Blackboards and Boring lectures: Emerging Trends in India" on 16 April 2015. Both lectures were extremely well received and resulted in an engaging dialogue between the speaker and the audience. Dr. Shailaja Shastri also used the occasion to carry forward discussions with the Faculty at the Department of Psychology to carry forward a collaborative Research Project on `Happiness`. The questionnaire for administering the survey in both Bolton and Bengaluru was finalized and the process of data collection would commence soon. The University hopes to sign an MOU with the University of Bolton on future research collaboration during the visit of Professor Jerome Carlson to Bengaluru later this year.

Jain University Doctoral Student selected among the 'Top 3 Leaders of Tomorrow' to participate in the St. Gallen Symposium.


Ms. Ashwini N V Ganig a doctoral student in Psychology, who has been selected as one of the 100 Leaders of Tomorrow to participate in the St. Gallen Symposium has now been shortlisted among the Top 3 participants. The Top Three Leaders of Tomorrow are invited to present their ideas on "What is the next small BIG thing?" at the Plenary Session of the Symposium. Jain University congratulates Ms. Ashwini on this achievement.


9 April 2015

A group of 20 Post graduate students in Management from ISCTE Business School visited Jain University from 5 April - 9 April 2015, as a part of their India Study Tour for two weeks. The group is headed by Dr. Antonio Robalo, Professor of Management, Associate Dean, International Exchange Programmes in Management ISCTE Business School - University Institute of Lisbon.


A module on Indian Business Management practices was conducted by Jain University. A visit to Infosys, Mysore campus and to Indian Institute of Science was arranged. Prof. NVH Krishnan, Registrar, Jain University and the India coordinator for NIBES and Prof. Dinesh Nilkant, Center Head, CMS Business School, facilitated the visit.

Jain University is a member of NIBES (Network of Business and Economic Schools which is a global network of 20 Business and Economic Schools in 19 countries with more than 5.000 alumni in student’s mobility programs since 1996.

The faculty of the Post Graduate Department of Psychology, Dr. Shailaja Shastri & Dr. Sherin P. Antony, trained 80 preprimary teachers of Poornaprajna Group of Institutions on Therapeutic Play Techniques and Design Thinking. This was held from 1st April 2015 to 4th April 2015, at the Poornaprajna Institute of Faculty improvement, Jalahalli.


The Design Thinking workshop was facilitated by Dr. Shastri through a meticulously designed set of activities and experiments. The practical and creative perspectives utilized by teachers to resolve the problems were connected to the classroom dynamics. This series of workshops is gaining immense popularity in faculty development programs organized by educational institutions.

The Play Therapy Center set up under the leadership of Dr. Sherin has gained recognition in Bangalore. Several schools are requesting the department to set up similar centers in their respective schools and train their teachers in the same.

Jain University student Greeshma M Naidu, VI Semester BA won the best paper award in the International conference on “1st Annual World Conference on Woman Studies” at Colombo, Srilanka held on 24 – 25 March 2015. The Conference was organized by the Department of Transnational Studies / Global Gender Studies Graduate Program, University at Buffalo, USA.

Greeshma was awarded the "Best Student Presenter" in this prestigious conference out of the 30 presenters from 12 different countries. All the participants were mainly pursuing their Ph.D. or M.Phil. Greeshma was the only participant from the Undergraduate level. The presentations were evaluated on Quality of the presentation, content of the presentation and level of interaction with the audience in the Q and A session

Jain University was delighted to welcome Dr. Andrea Lynne Dinan, Director of Service-Learning and Experiential Education program for Princeton Public School District in the United States on 4 April 2015. She is in India as part of a Rotary Exchange Programme between Rotary Club of Bangalore Cantonment and Rotary Club of Princeton, New Jersey. Dr. Dinan had an interaction with the Faculty of the Departments of Psychology, English and Forensic Sciences. She spoke about the work she does in the Princeton Public School District linked to Community Engagement, Diversity Management and Challenges in the contemporary education scenario. She had an engaging discussion with the Faculty on educational practices in both India and the United States and the importance of students linking up to the larger community. Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain University welcomed the Guest and moderated the discussions.

Dr. Choodamani Nandagopal, Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain University has contributed three major chapters in the five volumes of "Manasollasa”, an Encyclopedia belonging to the 12th Century in Kannada version published by Karnataka Sanskrit University, Bangalore. His Excellency, Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Shri Vajubhai Vala will be releasing this Encyclopedia at Yavanika, Bangalore on 18 March 2015.

Jain University had the privilege of collaborating with Vishweshwaraya Trade Promotion Council (VTPC), Government of Karnataka in formulating the Export Strategies of the State of Karnataka. The exercise which commenced in June 2014 was successfully completed recently. Prof. N V H Krishnan, Registrar, Jain University and Prof. Krishna Koppa, Associate Professor, CMS Business School worked closely with the VTPC.

Upon completion of the exercise, Jain University, represented by Prof. Krishnan and Prof. Krishna Koppa were invited by the Government of Karnataka to make a formal presentation at the Interaction Session held at Taj West End on March 10, 2015. The meeting was chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industries & Commerce, Mrs. Ratnaprabha, IAS and was attended by a host of dignitaries including the Commissioner of Industries & Commerce and Exports, Mr. Gaurav Gupta, IAS, the Commissioner of Customs, the Joint DGFT, MD - VTPC, Mr. Shivaswamy, Joint Director - VTPC, Ms. Swaroopa, representatives from industry associations such as CII, Assocham, FICCI etc., and by representatives of leading export organisations such as Toyota Kirloskar, Rajesh Exports, Agarbathi exporters, silk exporters and many more.

A large number of proposals and recommendations of Jain University have been included in Karnataka's Export Policy being released by the Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka on March 18, 2015.

It is a matter of great pride to Jain University that one of its Doctoral Students, Ms. Ashwini N V is selected as a LEADER OF TOMORROW to participate in the St. Gallen Symposium to be held at St. Gallen, Switzerland from 6 to 8 May 2015.

Those selected students represent the 200 brightest young minds from all over the world. The doctoral student in Psychology Ms. Ashwini, works under the guidance of Dr. Shailaja Shastri, Professor and Head, Dept of Psychology, Jain University.

Ms. Ashwini was selected among 900 contestants from 350 universities and 108 nationalities. As a LEADER OF TOMORROW, Ms. Ashwini will participate in a dialogue on the topic `Proudly Small` together with 600 top decision makers of today’s business, politics and society.

Jain University is privileged to have a NATIONAL FELLOW of the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Dr. G K Karanth, choosing the University as the Institutional base for his Fellowship. A sociologist of repute, Dr. Karanth will be working on a project 'SOCIETY AND SOCIAL CHANGE IN CONTEMPORARY INDIA' during his two year National Fellowship and will be based at one of the Research Centers of the University, The Center for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CERSSE).The National Fellowship is awarded to eminent scholars by ICSSR, on invitation.
