Forensic Science is the application of science to law and its enforcement. The degree will appeal to those with an interest in the application of science to the investigation and analysis of evidence.
The programme provides an intellectually challenging study of a full range of forensic applications. The aim of this programme is to encourage students to study scientific subjects that provide them with the necessary skills to work in forensic science as well as a wide range of other scientific fields. The major emphasis of the programme is to provide high-quality broad-based scientific training that does not restrict successful graduates when they choose their career.
It fulfils the growing demand for expertise in investigatory, enforcement and monitoring work, including incident scene investigation, physical evidence collection, laboratory analysis of evidence and defence of testimony. Forensic Science is broadly grouped into three: Medical, laboratory and field science.
Forensic medicine is a broad medical subject which includes forensic pathology, psychiatry, psychology, forensic medicine and odontology (dentistry). Laboratory sciences include chemistry, biology, toxicology, ballistics, fingerprints, questioned documents and marks and impressions. Field sciences include crime scene investigation which incorporates areas such as fire and explosion scenes and clandestine
drug laboratories.
Forensic Speech Science is a latest addition to Forensic science. Forensic speech science deals with recording, analysing voice samples using spectrogram, a machine used to identify the speaker.

Eligibility Criteria
The minimum qualification required to be eligible for Admission is a pass in the 10+2 examination or Equivalent from any recognized Central or State Board or Programme recognized as equivalent thereto by the University. The candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology at 10+2 or equivalent stage.

A degree course in forensic sciences emphasises the development of analytical and problem-solving skills which are very relevant to a wide range of employment Opportunities in both the public and private sectors. There are significant demands for forensic science skills from law enforcement organisations (police, Customs, environmental, health) and investigatory agencies.
