Fakir Syed Aijazuddin visits Jain University

Mr. Fakir Syed Aijazuddin visited Jain University on February 18th 2010. He is an internationally recognized art - historian and author of more than a dozen books. He is the chairman, Executive Committee of the Lahore Museum, and has been visiting India (Chandigarh) since mid 1950s. Mr. Aijazuddin wears many a cap - chartered accountant, with experience in automotive, fertilizer, oil and gas, insurance and investment banking sectors. He now heads his alma mater, Aitchison College, Lahore, where many of the scions of the most-noted families of the region studied. He has served Honorary Consul for the United Kingdom at Lahore since 1994 and has been awarded the Order of British Empire (OBE) in 1997.
His interaction with the students of Jain University on the Indo - Pak ties was highly informative. “It was invigorating and enlightening in many ways”, a student said.
During his talk, he expressed, “The perception that both the countries have for each other needs to change. Despite being neighbours we are hardly aware of what the country really is. Programmes such as these where people from Pakistan can interact with students are a great opportunity.”
He also emphasized on the significance of bilateral ties between the two countries in the area of trade and commerce. Being an admirer of art and culture, he threw light on the common cultural ties that the two countries shared and expressed that education can be a vital bridge to fill the gap.
At the closure of the lecture he reiterated that such interactions can go a long way in furthering peace and cooperation between the nations.
