Politics has that queer characteristic of attracting and repelling people simultaneously. Karnataka, as one of the prominent Indian states has witnessed its own share of political triumphs and turmoil.

Why urban electorate is apathetic towards political processes? What are the aspirations of the rural segments? How coalition politics has taken roots in Karnataka? Has Corruption become the name of the game?

All these questions have been critically analyzed in the succinct writings by Sandeep Shastriⁱⁱ in the book. The book was launched by His Excellency Shri Hans Raj Bhardwaj, the Hon’ble Governor of Karnataka.

The other Jain University dignitaries present on the occasion are Dr. R Chenraj Jain – Chancellor, Dr. N Sundararajan – Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sandeep Shastri – Pro Vice Chancellor & Prof. N V H Krishnan – Registrar.

Speaking on the occasion, HE Hon’ble Governor Shri Hans Raj Bharadwaj gave a brief introduction about the education system that was set up in the earlier days and the new evolvement that has taken place. He believes that politics is a new profession and Karnataka has a good tradition of politics. Karnataka is a very powerful state which has produced outstanding statesman, builders, and philanthropist. He is very impressed with the Karnataka state and would like to learn and inculcate lot of traditional ideals.

Dr Sandeep Shastri (b.1960) is a Social Scientist and heads the Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education of the University. He has to his credit 7 Books, over 35 articles in Edited Books and over 65 articles in refereed Research Journals, besides more than 100 articles in the popular media - newspapers and magazines. He is a well known election and political analyst and comments frequently in both the print and electronic media. He is currently the National Coordinator of the Lokniti Network and a Consultant to the Forum of Federalism its Africa programmes.
