A National Workshop on “New Vistas in Diversifying India's Agri-Business Sector” was held at Jain University – School of Business (Department of Management Studies) Jain Global Campus on 27th March 2010 to deliberate on the burning issue of slowing down of the economic growth in the agriculture sector.
Over 40 participants covering the sectors of Dairy Development, Poultry, Sericulture, Retail Industry, Corporate Agriculture (Contract Farming) deliberated on the above. Prof. P G Chengappa, Vice Chancellor, Agriculture University delivered the Keynote Address and dwelled upon the absolute need for more government initiatives through greater investment in the agriculture sector. He emphasized that agriculture sector has become very competitive with commercialization; market oriented processed foods gaining momentum.
Dr. Sathish Kulkarni, Director, National Dairy Research Institute deliberated on the high prospects for Dairy and Dairy products, with growing effective demand both in the domestic and export market.
Dr. G Somashekhar, Former Director, Central Silk Board reemphasized that Sericulture sector can still continue to support the farmers to earn higher incomes through production of high quality silk which can meet the competition and survive in the international market.
Dr. Vivek Nayak, A prosperous producer and exporter of Gherkins, from Hubli deliberated on the expanding market for Gherkins and Frozen Fruits and Vegetables in the European and American markets.
Dr. Vasanth Kumar, Addl. Secretary, Food Processing summarized the present growing scenario of the ever expanding agribusiness, agri processed exports.
