Walkathon to mark World Cancer Day

Braving the cold, over 200 students and volunteers from the city participated in the Cancer Awareness Walk organized under the banner of National Entrepreneurship Network’s (NEN) and Wadhwani Foundation, Jain University Community Radio - Radio Active CR 90.4 MHz and Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College JC Road Campus student Entrepreneurship Cell (E-Nexus) in association with several NGOs like The Golden Husk, Karunashraya and Jagruthi Bone Cancer Treatment & Research Trust.

The walk was flagged off by Hema, General Manager Karunashraya and Dr. Srinivas CH, Founder Trustee & Managing Director Jagruthi Bone Cancer Treatment & Research Trust, Manager- Training & and Mr. Abubaker- Founder Trustee.

The students walked through Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain College JC road campus Townhall, District Library, Cubbon Park, Mysore Bank road to Center for Management Studies Palace Road.

Keeping with the theme of the World Cancer Day that “Cancer can be prevented”, walkers held placards with messages of “No tobacco use, limited use of liquor, regular check-ups, regular exercise and a healthy diet “.

This was followed by a seminar on Cancer by Dr. Srinivas- Assistant Professor Orthopedic Onco Surgeon; MS Ramaiah Medical College and Hospital, Dr.Vishal Rao- Assistant Onco Surgeon Kidwai Cancer Institute, Dr. Nirmala- Professor Radio Therapy Department MS Ramaiah Medical college and Hospital and introduction to Karunashraya by Mrs. Hema at 1/1-1, ATrai Towers, Palace Road, Bangalore- 1 at 8.30am.

A documentary on Bone Cancer was also screened.
