Why take this course?

In spite of their size, the impact of microbes on the planet is so extensive that life as we know it could not exist without them. In addition, microbes cause many diseases to humans, animals, and plants. Knowledge of Microbiology will enable you to improve the quality of our lives in relation to the environment, to fight disease, and to combat pollution. Microbiology plays a key role in genetic engineering and other Modern Biotechnology, such as antibiotic production and the exploitation of new sources of food and energy. This course will provide the students interested in the various Biosciences with a sound theoretical background and hands-on laboratory experience in leading-edge microbiology.

What opportunities might it lead to?

Career opportunities with the study of microbiology are plentiful and there are lucrative options in India as well as abroad. Microbiology graduates can undertake scientific research in industries, government research laboratories, hospital laboratories or in university research divisions. Microbiology graduates are employed in research organizations in various capacities like research scientists, scientific laboratory technicians, toxicologists, pathologists and healthcare scientists. In pharmaceutical, food, beverage and chemical industries, microbiologists play important roles as quality control and quality assurance specialists, food and water quality scientists, production research officers, technical brewers, ecologists, scientific writers and content developers.

In the academic field, microbiology graduates are employed as lecturers and professors to impart training, education, and guidance to graduate, postgraduate students, and research scholars. A large number of microbiology graduates pursue higher learning through Ph.D. and Post-Doctoral research in India and abroad. Several self-employment opportunities are also available with microbiology. In the agricultural and biopharmaceutical sectors, microbiologists promote businesses through the development of specialized products and biopharmaceuticals.
