Jain University organizes its Annual Mega Blood Donation Camp

In its commitment to serve the society, Jain University organized 'Sampradaana', its Annual Mega Blood Donation Camp to create awareness among youth about the importance of blood donation in overcoming shortage at blood banks as well as saving people’s lives.
The day-long drive was organized across five campuses of Jain University, namely, School of Graduate Studies (J C Road), School of Engineering and Technology (Jakkasandra, Bangalore – Kanakapura Main Road), School of Commerce Studies (Jayanagar 9th Block), School of Humanities and Social Sciences and School of Interior Design, (Palace Road) and Center for Management Studies (Lalbagh Road).
Speaking on the occasion, Uday Masturlal, President of The Rotary Bangalore Midtown, applauded the initiative taken by the Jain University as it significantly helps them in overcoming the blood shortage. He added, “We conduct the Blood Donation Camps with the help of the Indian Red Cross Society and Kidney Foundation Bangalore.”
Highlighting safe practice of blood donation, Masturlal said, “First of all, we perform screening tests on donors to detect any possible infections and subsequently, collect blood. After the collection, we transfer it to the blood bank and in times of emergency, patients who are in dire need, receive the blood.”
This year, the total number of blood units collected, has doubled. Major Arvind Kumar, Coy Cdr, 2A/5 Coy, Jain University, remarked, “Overall 2000 units of blood have been collected this year. This shows our progress in creating awareness and it surely provides us immense contentment to be able to work for the society” He appreciated and thanked donors who volunteered to be a part of the social cause.
The camp witnessed active participation from students. Dr. Vasu B A, Center Head, School of Commerce Studies, Jain University, praised the efforts of National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC) and Rotaract Club, who helped in the proper execution of the event by offering guidance and support to donors. He shared, “This Mega Donation Camp is Jain University’s way of living up to its values and serving the society through this life saving attempt.”
Jay Malik, B.Com. first year student and a part of Jain University NCC, donates blood every year and also encourages other students to volunteer. “It is a wonderful feeling when you realize that a small action on your part is going to help in saving someone’s life”, shared Jay.
The collected units of blood will benefit health service providers such as Rotary Club, Lions Club International, Victoria Hospital, Jayanagar General Hospital and Rashtrotthana Parishat.
A Certificate of Appreciation was provided to all donors.
