Shreyas Gopal – All-rounder Star

Ramaswamy Shreyas Gopal is an Indian cricketer who plays for Karnataka in domestic cricket and IPL Team Mumbai Indians. The 24-year-old all-rounder is a leg-spinner and a handy lower-order batsman who became the youngest cricketer to represent the state in the under-13 category. Because of his impressive Ranji season for Karnataka, he earned a contract with the Mumbai franchise for the 2014 edition of the Indian T20 League.

Other than playing three ODIs for India Under-19 cricket team in 2011, he had captained Karnataka at various age levels including Under-13, Under-15, Under-16, and Under-19 categories. Later, he joined the IPL team Mumbai Indians in 2014. The young lad who grew up idolizing Rahul Dravid admires his style of batting, discipline, and his commitment to the game. Impressed by his performance at a local tournament, Dravid rewarded him with several bats and a pair of pads which he himself used during this last tournament in England. Whenever Shreyas has time on his hands, he reads biographies of sports personalities for motivation.

Shreyas Gopal is one of many upcoming cricketers from the domestic circuit in India who has played a handful of first-class games for Karnataka after his first-class debut in 2013. Having received his Bachelor's degree in Commerce by Jain University, Shreyas understands the importance of education even for a sportsman. Shreyas made a breathtaking record by slamming more than 15 centuries and claiming over 200 wickets, thus, becoming one of the key men for Karnataka.

An effective leg-break bowler, Shreyas has also proven to be handy with the bat lower down the order. He has three centuries and three half-centuries in first-class cricket for Karnataka with a top score of 145. In 2013, his technically-sound all-round talent helped Southern Champs Jain University in clinching the T20 All-India University Cricket Championship title over Kent Northern Stars Delhi of Jamia Milia University.

Son of Gopal Ramaswamy who was a club cricketer for 20 years and is the director of a sports management firm and Amitha Ramaswamy who was a state-level volleyball player, Shreyas has always been a coach’s delight because of his ability to switch gears as the situation demands. Shreyas has also been associated with the Karnataka Premier League for a long time now and in such a short span of time, he has come a long way by making great strides in his career.
