Stuart Binny - Son of former Indian cricketer Roger Binny, Stuart Binny decided to follow in his father’s footsteps and made his international debut in 2014. Born and brought up in Bangalore, he was trained by his father who was the cricket coach at his school. When Indian Cricket League (ICL) came into existence in 2007, he joined the league as one of the tournaments’ premier all-rounders. Since 2016, he has been playing with the Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Because of his consistent high performance in domestic matches, he was selected for India’s One Day Internationals (ODI) team for the New Zealand tour in 2014. Although he had a slow start in his career, he proved his talent in the match played against Bangladesh in 2014. Binny secured six wickets and conceded only four runs surpassing Anil Kumble’s record of the best bowlers in India. At the age of 30, he stepped into Tests matches when Indian cricket team toured England in 2014. Later in 2015, he made his Twenty20 International debut against Zimbabwe.
Maintaining a regular position in the Karnataka Ranji team, Binny also represented Hyderabad Heroes and helped them win the matches. After quitting ICL and inking a deal with IPL, he played with IPL teams Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals and established himself as an all-rounder in cricket.
Hailing from Bangalore, Binny has completed his education from Jain University. He shared his experiences about his time spent at the university, “I have always felt grateful being a part of Jain University where I got a chance to meet wonderful people with the same passion for sports like me. Chenraj sir always encourages students to follow their passion and fulfill their dreams. His commitment and dedication for nurturing students is admirable. The college always supports its students in achieving their goals and provides a platform for them to excel.”
With his capability of performing as an all-rounder, he claimed a spot in the World Cup 2015 match. Thus, Roger Binny and Stuart Binny became the first father-son pair to play for India in the World Cup matches. A consistent all-rounder in domestic cricket and for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, Binny is known for his big-hitting abilities.
