2nd International Yoga Day: Jain University students bend it like a pro21 June 2016
Chain of stretched arms and dynamic poses swamped the ground of JGI Knowledge Campus today as School of Commerce Studies, Jain University students thronged to observe the 2nd International Yoga Day.
In view of this massive celebration being observed across the globe, Jain University organized a special “Informed Yoga session” to provide students a 360 degree view of unexplored benefits of yoga. World renowned Gastroenterologist Dr. Anjanappa was the chief guest at the event and addressed the talk session wherein he meticulously outlined the benefits of yoga.
“Being a surgeon myself I would like to recommend all to make yoga a part of daily life. For ages yoga therapy has been prescribed to cure many health disorders. Though it is not there in the curriculum of allopathic system of medicine, however this idea of International Yoga Day will help in bringing some change and open the eyes of medical education department to introduce yoga to all students. And this initiative taken by Jain University stands as a true specimen of how students can be enlightened about the benefits of yoga.”
More than 300 students and faculty members gathered to be a part of this mass movement and to learn about the iatric benefits through various yogic practices.
In order to pay tribute to this ancient Indian tradition in its truest sense, the event included traditional meditative sessions, informative talk by the chief guest on the origin and adoption of yoga as a mass culture and practical sessions of yoga for students.
The event gained momentum with remarkable response from participants who embraced this philosophical ascetic practice religiously and performed attentively to the instructions of the experts.
The yoga sessions were conducted by Yoga instructor Joseph ET and NSS program officer Mr. Mahesh. Mr. Joseph stressed upon the importance of integrating yoga with our daily lives and how youth can reap the benefits by practicing yoga regularly. “Yoga is the only way that helps one to bring together and form a synthesis between his mind, body and soul”, he added.Sonia D, an NCC student of Jain University, urged all fellow students to make yoga a part of their life. “Practice yoga every day and you can actually keep all your health issues at bay”, she claimed.
Jain University has been consistent in initiating awareness campaigns to address the importance of physical and mental health and has always encouraged students to learn the value of life-skills and conscientiousness.
