Interactive Session on Get a Life – Work-Life Balance

As a part of Faculty Development Program, Vishwas - the Students Counseling and Guidance Center of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a session on 'Get a Life – Work-Life Balance' on 17 February 2018 for the faculty members of School of Engineering and Technology. The speaker of the day was Dr. Uma Warrier, Chief Counselor at Jain (Deemed-to-be University).

Dr.Rajasimha. A. Makaram, the Associate Director, Industry-University Interface at JU-SET welcomed the speaker and introduced to the faculty members. The session began with an ice-breaker which made the participants comfortable so that they can take a part in the discussion.

During the session, the speaker emphasized the importance of work-life balance, advised faculty members to address the problems faced by them in the current work set up. She mentioned 5 quadrants of life such as Self, Work, Family, Society and Friends which needs balance.

Moving further, the speaker focused on the reasons for imbalance. She opined that the changing nature of the family structure, the collision in the workplace and family demands, blurred boundary and spilled over effect, lack of family and social support, challenges at work, challenges at home are the main causes. The speaker also, made the audiences aware of the consequences of poor work-life integration which she categorized into 4 categories namely, health risk, career risk, workplace violence and societal level risk.

During the second half of the session, the speaker stressed upon how to deal with problems related to work and personal life balance and improve work-life integration. She also gave more insights and strategies to tackle such issues.

The audience felt motivated by the session and expressed their interest to attend more such sessions in the near future. The session then concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Pradeepa P, Associate Professor, JU-SET.
