Workshop on "Project - Based Learning: Defining Social Action and Active Citizenship on Real - world Issues"

Jain University conducted an interactive workshop titled “Project- Based Learning: Defining Social Action and Active Citizenship on Real - world Issues” by Dr. Samir K Brahmachari, J C Bose National Fellow and Former Director General of CSIR on 5th and 6th of August 2016 at the JGI Knowledge Campus for the undergraduate and postgraduate students and faculty of Commerce, Management and Engineering streams.
The day I session was presided by Dr. Mithileshwar Jha, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Jain University, Prof. NVH Krishanan, Registrar, Jain University, Prof. Dinesh Nilkant, Director, CMS - Jain University, Dr. B.A Vasu, Center Head, SCS - Jain University, Ms. Aparna Prasad, Director, Corporate Strategy, Jain University.
Dr. Samir K Brahmachari, addressed the gathering about key areas like entrepreneurship, learning centric approach, excellence, value based education, employability, opportunity, pool of intellectual capacity, curiosity, creativity, inquisitiveness, etc. He greatly emphasized on creating an online portal for Jain University where students can connect and initiate a social cause.
Later, the participating students and faculty were divided into teams and asked to present their viable solutions to the local issues which were identified by themselves such as traffic, pollution, sanitation, Pre-University education system, usage of plastic etc.
In continuation with day one 9 teams presented their views which were scalable and saleable. After each presentation, Dr. Samir K Brahmachari highlighted the key observations and findings and suggested few solutions. His attention was on how to formulate socially useful projects (local projects of global impact) by crowdsourcing ideas from the participants, discussing about what world wants to do in terms of sustainable development goals through these projects. The curtains were down by pondering on how one and all can involve in projects which are socially relevant through: reasoning, analytical, and problem solving skills.
Finally, the best teams were awarded and all participants were appreciated through consolations.
