Actor Vijaya Raghavendra on Inaugurating Childresn's Day Event

The Department of MSc (IT), Jain University, organized a unique event named “Little Steps” to commemorate Children’s Day on November 14. Thirty-seven children from the Anatha Shishu Nivasa, Bangalore, were invited to visit the Jain University Campus at Jayanagar to have a different experience from their routine Children’s Day celebrations.

Mandanna, II MSc (IT) student of Jain University explained the concept of the event, “Today, everyone will go to an orphanage to celebrate Children’s Day. But, we at Jain University brought those students to our university. This is a new idea that we initiated. Two days back we visited Anatha Shishu Nivasa . Thirty-seven students gave their wish list to us that they couldn’t afford. Today we are fulfilling their wish.”

Ramya, the little girl from Anathu Shishu Nivasa could not hold back her excitement. “First time we are coming out like this. We told them that we will make lot of noise, but, still they said, ‘Yes, you have to come! After all, it is your day and we want to celebrate They gave us chocolates, balloons, gifts we wished for, and arranged a special magic show. On the whole we had a great time here,” she said.

Apart from their individual wishes, the children had a collective wish to meet the Kannada actor Vijaya Raghavendra and he readily obliged. “I will talk in Kannada as I want to reach out to the little kids who are the centre point of today’s event,” said Vijay inaugurating the event. “There is a saying that today’s children are tomorrow’s citizens. However, in this digital era we have to amend that and say that today’s children are today’s citizens since their mental growth is so fast. As responsible elders, it is our responsibility to guide them in the right path,” he added.

Events like these go a long way in triggering the imagination of children and sow the seeds of hope and opportunity in their mind.
