Pride and Patriotism Rides High at the Republic Day Camp: Recalls Sonu

25-01-2021

It was a proud moment for JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)'s grad Sonu when he represented the state of Karnataka-Goa directorate of National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the Republic Day Camp (RDC) held at Delhi in 2019.

Sonu has performed exceptionally well in NCC and has several credits under his belt. He is a recipient of various awards, recognition, and scholarship for his outstanding performance during his time at JAIN (Deemed-to-be University). He participated in the national cycle expedition attended by the cadets of 2A/5 Company, 7 Kar Battalion NCC of JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) to spread awareness on wildlife conservation where they covered Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. “Major Arvind Kumar Sir has been my backbone during the NCC days. Being part of NCC inspired me to join the Indian Army. NCC has channelled my life in a direction where serving the nation has become my calling”, says Sonu.

Sonu’s journey to the RDC began when he cleared the 8 camps of 10 days each and inter-group competitions organized by the Karnataka-Goa directorate of NCC. Sonu got selected along with 106 students and was stationed at Delhi Cantt for training. Sonu, recollecting his days at the camp, said, “The routine was intense as the day stretched from 4:00 AM right until 10:00 PM. It provided me an opportunity to interact with cadets and army officers hailing from different corners of the country. Moreover, I got acquainted with our country’s diverse yet unifying culture.”

Sonu’s eyes sparkle when he recollects his encounter with the honorable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. "It is a custom that the RDC camp concludes with the Prime Minister’s rally, and the notable feature of the rally is that the Directorate that wins most competitions will have the honor of receiving the Prime Minister’s banner. I am fortunate enough to receive the PM banner on behalf of the Karnataka-Goa Directorate. I also had the distinguished opportunity of being amidst the honorable President, the Vice President, and other high-ranked government and defense officials of the Government of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan,” said Sonu.

Pride - honor - discipline - determination - patriotism - service - NCC encapsulates all these and much more. It is one of the few platforms where the Army, Air force and Navy, all come together to hone the youth of India for a brighter and better future.

JAIN (Deemed-to-be University)’s NCC wing has bagged the honor of ‘Best Institution’ for 14 consecutive years. The University has produced 31 cadets who are now serving the armed forces of the country.
