Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Organizes One Day State Level Seminar on Forensic Biology

About the Event

The Department of Forensic Science, School of Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), is organizing a state level seminar on Forensic Biology, intending to bridge the gap among various sub-disciplines of Forensic Biology and to bring in their amalgamation under Forensic Biology. The seminar will be held on 28 July 2017 from 9am to 5pm in the college premises.

Forensic Science is an inseparable organ of the Criminal Justice System of any country, which refers to the application of science and scientific techniques to matters related to civil and criminal law.

Forensic Biology is a branch of Forensic Science which deals with the study of biological evidence related to any offense including blood and other body fluids, plant materials, fibers and so on. Forensic Biology being an umbrella term, encompasses various sub-disciplines like Forensic Serology, Forensic Entomology, Forensic Wood Science, Wild-life Forensics, Forensic DNA Fingerprinting etc.

Though all the sub-disciplines are a part of Forensic Biology, Forensic scientists specialized in the discipline work specifically on evidence related to their domain. However, there remains a gap between the individuals working with and understanding of the topics dealt by each sub-discipline which requires an amalgamation.

The seminar on Forensic Biology intends to bring together all the areas of Forensic Biology, emphasizing the contribution of Life Sciences to Forensic Science.

The seminar will be delivered on the following topics:

  • - Wild-life Forensics
  • - Forensic Serology & DNA
  • - Forensic Wood Science
  • - Forensic Entomology

The seminar will be delivered by distinguished speakers Dr. Uday Vir Singh, Wildlife Forensics, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests & CEO, Dr. Vinod Lakkappan, Forensic Serology & DNA, Assistant Director, Karnataka State Forensic Science Laboratory, Madiwala, Bengaluru, Dr. Sundararaj - Forensic Entomology, Scientist G, Forest and Wood Protection Division, Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Bengaluru, Dr. Tresa Hamalton, Identification of Wood, Scientist C, Forest and Wood Protection Division, Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Bengaluru.
