Counseling as a concept is picking up momentum in Indian university campuses due to the huge demand for psychological assistance. However, even as the presence of counselors in universities create the emotional and psychological support system for students, we cannot underestimate the crucial role that university teachers play in the mental health and well-being of their students. Teachers can often be the key link between vulnerable students and the professional treatment the students receive to address their mental health problems.
Vishwas - Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Student Guidance and Counseling Center, and the White Swan Foundation (not-for-profit organization) is jointly organizing a Faculty Development Program to create awareness among the teaching community about the role that they have to play in enhancing the mental health of their students. This FDP will be invaluable to the teaching community, academicians, and practicing campus counselors, as it throws open the different perspectives of campus counseling to them.
