About Master's in Forensic Science

M.Sc Forensic Science is a postgraduate program from JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), Kochi that helps students to achieve prestigious CSoFS (Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences), UK Membership. Students will be eligible for Associate Membership from CSoFS after course completion. Students will develop a Forensic Scientists aptitude to examine materials to establish or exclude a link between the suspect and the victim or crime scene. They will use the latest technologies forensic scientists examine various evidences found at the crime scene and present scientific reports which is admissible in the court of law. The course is designed to meet the emerging trends in forensic science.

Program Outcomes

The course aims to build in students both theoretical knowledge and practical application of the key aspects of forensic science.

The course prepares students to detect dicey situations where a crime may occur, such as cyber security

Towards preventing digital attacks before they can happen. Even handwriting-analysis can be used in marital counselling and to help someone choose a career path.

Candidate's knowledge and understanding of advanced laboratory analytical methods applied to forensic investigation.

Career Prospects

Some of the job options include recording findings and collecting trace evidence from scenes of crime or accident, analyzing samples such as hair, body fluids, glass, paint, and drugs in the laboratory, applying various techniques like DNA profiling, mass spectrometry, chromatography etc. A major chunk of trained forensic scientists is hired by the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), etc. Another interesting career, rather the most attractive option for forensic scientists is teaching in institutes which impart education in forensic science. Students can also pursue research for further job high profile job opportunities.
