29 July 2016

Jain (Deemed-to-be University) celebrated Kargil Vijay Diwas on 29th July, 2016 to pay homage to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil war in 1999.

Jointly organized by the NCC, NSS and Rotaract Club, the event felicitated seven Army officers and ex-servicemen in the presence of cadet members and Jain (Deemed-to-be University) staffs. Marking the third year of its celebration, the event hailed the contribution of all chivalrous soldiers of our country and celebrated Jain (Deemed-to-be University)’s contribution to encourage and prepare youth to be soldiers.

During the felicitation ceremony 3 serving Army officers, 3 veterans and 1 martyred officer were honored. Colonel Vijayasarthi, Lt Colonel C S Jayaram and Sepoy N Muniratnam are the three veterans who were facilitated. Beside martyr Naik Parshuram's widow Mrs Parshuram was honored and three serving officers namely Major Vadiyanath, Captain Shreyas G S and Captain Danish Kumar were also felicitated. Major Vadiyanath and Captain Shreyas G S are the alumni of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and owed their success as able army officers to the NCC faculty members of the university.

The tone of the occasion was rightly set by Colonel Vijayasarathi, an ex-army officer and a professor at Jain (Deemed-to-be University) NCC department, as he said, "Today we are here to remember those who are not with us." While talking of the glory of the war fighters he also outlined how important it is for a country to have a good leader with whom lies the responsibility to administer co-operation among countries and allay terrorism.

Lt. Colonel C S Jayaram, an administrative officer for Jain (Deemed-to-be University) NCC, also paid tribute to the brave soldiers of Kargil war and recounted his experiences as a serving army officer while addressing the gathering. He hailed the initiative taken by Jain (Deemed-to-be University) to commemorate the martyrs and celebrate an occasion in memory of the gallants.
