  • Mega Blood Donation Camp

Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organizes Sampradaana, a Mega Blood Donation Camp

5 July 2016

Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a mega blood donation camp on 5th July, 2016, with an aim to create awareness among young people on the significance of donating blood and also help overcome shortage at blood banks.

This day-long drive called as ‘Sampradaana’ was held across four campuses of Jain (Deemed-to-be University), namely School of Graduate Studies (J C Road), School of Engineering and Technology (Jakkasandra, Bangalore – Kanakapura Main Road), School of Commerce Studies (Jayanagar 9th Block) and Center for Management Studies (Lalbagh Road).

As many as 1200 students have donated blood on the day and health service providers like Kidwai Hospital, Narayana Hrudayalaya, Rotary Club, and Rashtrotthana Parishat were the key beneficiaries as the collected units of blood will help them meet requirements at blood banks.

Dr Prathiba K, blood bank in-charge at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology said, “Jain (Deemed-to-be University) has been conducting blood camps for many years and we get invitation for these camps twice in a year. It helps us overcome shortage at our blood banks and also cater to the need of poor people. We are always in need of blood and blood platelets due to high number of pediatric and cancer patients at our center and these camps help us meet the requirement.”

More than 1000 units of blood have been collected in a single day and the notable part of this mega drive was the overwhelming response from students, who not only willingly participated but also promoted the cause.

Dinesh, a B.Com 1st year student, who was excited to have donated blood for the first time said, “This is the first time that I am donating blood, and I must say it is extremely important for all the youngsters to understand what benefit they can do to the society by donating just one unit of blood. I thank Jain (Deemed-to-be University) for conducting such camp and encouraging students to donate blood.”

NSS, NCC and Rotaract Club volunteers played a major part in encouraging students to donate blood and making the camp a huge success.

Ranvir Singh, corporal NCC, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), said, “NCC, along with NSS and Rotaract Club have helped the University in conducting this blood donation camp. The benefit of conducting such voluntary camps is that it promote awareness among students about the importance of donating blood.”
