Joy of Giving Fest: Jain (Deemed-to-be University) distributes 2000 sandwiches to underprivileged kids

8 October 2016

Students of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) along with volunteers from Robin Hood Army, a volunteer-based food catering organization and MTHR, a non-profit knowledge movement organization prepared 2000 sandwiches for underprivileged kids across Bangalore.

A total of 120 participants voluntarily prepared and packed sandwiches for kids from government schools and slums. Organizations like Cisco, Oracle, and Siemens etc have joined hands to contribute towards this event as part of their CSR initiatives. Corporate professionals and even army veterans participated as MTHR volunteers and worked in teams to prepare sandwiches.

Mahesh Tiwari, who works in Oracle, expressed his exuberance for being part of this noble cause. He said, "What we are actually doing here is touching lives through this initiative. And hats off to Jain (Deemed-to-be University) for extending this scope to join hands in contributing towards the Joy of Giving festival."

Another MTHR volunteer, Pooja, who is an HR at SLK Software, said, "This initiative is a part of Daan Utsav, which happens every year from October 2-8. We are covering almost 8-10 schools and 1 thousand kids, in collaboration with Jain (Deemed-to-be University)."

Nikita Agarwal, an MBA student at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), was all excited to be a volunteer for this initiative and termed the event as a great opportunity to serve foods to those who are underprivileged. She said, "We all gathered at the campus at 7 in the morning. We were provided all items to prepare and pack sandwiches. We also gave chocolates in the food pack. We were around 20-25 students and all worked as a team. It was an amazing experience and I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at this initiative."

Professor Saptagiri, Program In-charge of MBA in Entrepreneurship and PGDM at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), who was also associated with the organizing team of this event, said, "The objective of this initiative is aligned with that of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) that believes in enhancing ways of living and creating positive impacts in the lives of people. This initiative is a part of our social responsibilities, where we are distributing 2000 sandwiches to students of government schools and from identified slums. We are very happy with the kind of response and support we got from various corporate houses and social organizations. The event turned out to be a great success."
