Guest Lecture on 'Challenges in the field of Journalism' by Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Alumnus Mr. S.R. Aradhya

11 August 2017

As a part of Inspiring Alumni Series, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) invited its alumnus Mr. S.R Aradhya, Editor-in-charge of Udaya TV to deliver a talk on “Challenges in the field of Journalism” for BA students on 22 July 2017.

Addressing the students, he shared his experience on how he manages time to focus on the goal. Briefing on the evolution of communication, he spoke about how we started from sounds and signals and formation of languages and the contribution of the printing press in the field of communication.

Regretting about the role of media that is been played today, he said that it is a mirror and today's TV channels, news reporters focus only on politics and other important aspects of society are ignored. Debates about personal lives of celebrities are prioritized by media instead of making choices benefiting the society.

He opined that media influences in molding people's thoughts and the atmosphere is responsible for shaping the personalities and lifestyles of families. Therefore, when evolved in media, one needs to mold choices according to public opinions and show social responsibility.

Advising the students he said that, journalism requires dedication, responsible behavior and smart mind which helps in reporting the events in a better way. News readers are not just readers but presenters who need experience and should know how to handle debates hence journalism plays an important role in their careers.

The insightful session concluded with a Q&A session with a vote of thanks to the speaker.
