A four days’ workshop on Phase-I outcome based education (OBE) model was conducted to SET faculty members from 13th July to 16th July-2016, by Dr. Hariprasad S.A, Director, JUSET with an objective of educating faculty members regarding OBE model. The concepts of OBE model (Washington accord framework) was made clear to participants through six criteria.
First day: Criterion-I and Criterion-II
Under criterion - 1, faculty members were educated by using active learning methods regarding the formulation of Vision, Mission, PEO, PO and PSO’s. Different modern teaching tools, active teaching methods, techniques to improve evaluation quality of internals / projects and how to build industry-institute tie ups were discussed in criterion - 2.
Second day: Criterion-III and Criterion-IV
Under criterion - 3, how to define course outcome for a course, how to identify the industry gap and what activities to be conducted to fill up the gap, how to design outstanding curriculum on par with world standards, how to calculate course attainment through Direct and Indirect methods and finally how to evaluate PO attainments were discussed in detail through activities. The importance of student academic performance index and success ratio was made very clear to the participants in criterion - 4.
Third day: Criterion-V /Criterion-VI, HOD’s Presentations
Under criterion - 5 (pertaining to faculty members), the importance of paper publications, sabbaticals, joint publications, workshops, conferences, consultancy work, patents, innovations, UGC tier-3 norms, MOU’s, promotion, incentives, feedback policies were made clear. How to formulate lab budget, safety norms, knowledge enhancement of nonteaching faculty members, maintenance, servicing and calibrations of equipment’s, sufficiency of the lab space, utility of the labs were discussed under criterion - 6. Electronics and mechanical HOD’s presented their Department OBE status based on the OBE questions given by the Director.
Fourth day: HOD’s Presentations, Quiz and Valedictory Function
NBA / OBE quiz was conducted to all faculty members to evaluate the outcome of the defined objective. Heads of Computer science, Electrical and Civil departments presented their Department OBE status based on the OBE questions given by the Director.
The program was concluded with Valedictory function, by distributing certificates to all faculty members in the august presence of Hon’ble Vice chancellor of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Dr. N. Sundararajan, Controller of Examinations Prof. Manjunath and Director of Academics Prof. Jayagopal Ucchil. All the four days, participant’s totally involved in the workshop and enjoyed every moment of it.
