A Guest Lecture on 'Careers in TAX' and 'Expectations from Employers'

As a part of 'Words of Wisdom' series, School of Commerce Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) conducted a guest lecture on 'Careers in TAX' and 'Expectations from Employers' on 30 August 2017 for B.Com and M.Com students. The guest speakers of the day were Mr. Rony Antony- Director, BSR Co. LLP. and Mr. Gopala Krishnan - Associate Director and Tax Recruitment Lead, KPMG India.

Mr. Gopala Krishnan began the session by explaining the dynamics of the corporate world and how a graduate should adapt to the changing environment of the corporate sector.

Highlighting the importance of specialization during graduation, he stated that having merely a master's degree is not enough for career growth, however, specializing in a certain subject is essential along with achieving a degree from a reputed university.

During the session, he guided students on how to achieve their career goals and how to assess upcoming challenges that will conflict with personal commitments. He also emphasized on how to be proactive to handle such quirky situations.

Talking about the current trend in the job market, the speaker said that there are plenty of job opportunities available for career growth in four big consulting firms namely PricewaterhouseCoopers- PwC, Ernst & Young (E&Y), Deloitte and KPMG, however the person should be ready to handle the work pressure and and longer working hours.

Explaining about 'Careers in TAX', Mr. Rony Antony stated that there are plenty of job opportunities available in the field of GST. Citing the example of Mr. Harish Salve who is a renowned corporate lawyer, he also said that there are ample opportunities for individuals to work on litigations and succeed as efficient law professionals.
