Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a national level faculty development program on “Scientific Writing and Research Publications” on 25 January 2019. A total of 178 scholars, researchers and teachers from various colleges, universities and industries participated in this program.
The program aimed to teach the ways of producing a good research paper, to help the participants gain more exposure and the importance of good content, research and review. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Jain (Deemed-to-be University).
There were a total of four sessions held by Dr. Pit Pichappan, Senior scientist, Digital Information Research Foundation (DIRF), Chennai, Guest Professor at Zhejiang University, China and Dr. M. Krishnamurthy, Associate Professor and Research Guide, DRTC, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Bangalore.
The keynote speaker of the day Dr. Sandeep Shastri interacted with the attendees and spoke about the significance of writing and about the session. He remarked that writing should be apt and should not be too less or too more.
The first session was held by Dr. Pit Pichappan on “Strategies and Tools for Quality Publications”. He spoke to the gathering regarding the various strategies that can be adopted while writing publications and the problems that arise. The second session was on “Standards in scientific writing” where he emphasized the style of writing and connectivity in between paragraphs. He gave tips on how to write scientifically and discussed the other aspects of scientific writing.
Post lunch the third session was conducted by Dr. M Krishnamurthy a highly learned person on the topic “Publication quality, citation measures and plagiarism”. Dr. M Krishnamurthy at great length spoke about the quality of content and the proper way of use of citation, how to obtain permission to use the written work of other authors. He discussed the growing plagiarism and the different tools that can identify it and how unknowingly one can end up plagiarizing somebody’s content. There were a lot of questions that the gathering had and were duly answered by Dr. M Krishnamurthy.
For the fourth session was conducted by Dr. Pit Pichappan on the topic “Practical illustrations for quality publications”. He concluded his session by wishing all the members of the audience a good fortune with their research and publications and thanked Jain (Deemed-to-be University) for the wonderful opportunity. He even highlighted the importance of such sessions.
