A Seminar on 'Role of Digital Technologies in Governance'

Jain (Deemed-to-be-University) and The Indian Institute of Public Administration - Karnataka Branch in collaboration with the Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CERSSE) organized a seminar on 'Role of Digital Technologies in Governance' on 15 October 2018.

The speakers of the session were Mr S.V. Ranganathan, Vice Chairman, Karnataka State Higher Education Council, Former Chief Secretary of Karnataka and Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain (Deemed-to-be-University).

In his presentation Mr. Ranganath focused on the impact of big data, information technology and behavioral sciences on modern governance. He drew attention to the rapid change in modern societies and outlined the important challenges that the digital technology posed. He emphasized the importance of discussing the rising impact of digital technology on modern governance.

Dr. Shastri drew attention to the need to focus on governance as access. The speaker reminded the audience of the need to connect to 'human technology' and not exclusively focus on 'information technology'. He also underscored the emerging gap between the rhetoric and reality of digital technology.

The presentations was followed by a brief discussion with several queries being raised by the audience. The students, faculty and the members of the Karnataka Branch of IIPA participated in this session.
