As a part of the “Learn2Apply” event, School of Graduate studies - Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a two-day state level workshop on “Fourier analysis and applications” for UG and PG students, college teachers and Research scholars in Mathematics.
The program was sponsored by the three National Science Academies of India, namely INSA (Indian National Science Academy), NASI (National Academy of Sciences) and IASC (Indian Academy of Sciences).
The two-day state level workshop on “Fourier analysis and applications”, welcomed eminent experts from the field of Mathematical analysis are, Prof. A. K. Nandakumaran (IISc, Bangalore), Prof. Siva Athreya (Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore), Prof. Manjunath Krishnapur (IISc, Bangalore), Prof. E. K. Narayanan (IISc, Bangalore), and Prof. Venky Krishnan (TIFR-CAM, Bangalore).
The day one, a session was emphasized on the basics of the theory of Fourier analysis and extensions. In particular Functions on the real line and unit circle, sequences of functions and various notions of convergence of sequences, computation of Fourier coefficients for concrete examples were carried out. Related paradigms and extensions were also discussed.
The day two, a session was carried on the importance to relations to other areas of science, both within mathematics and outside the realm of Mathematics. Aspects like the use of DFT in High pass filters, low pass filters were described and the inverse problems involved in computerized tomography were also described in great detail. A very landmark result, namely Weyl’s equidistribution theorem and its applications were also discussed.
In all, 108 persons registered for the program and this list of participants included UG and PG students, college teachers and research scholars in mathematics, participated from various parts of Karnataka.
