The annual science expo Kalopsia-2K18 was held at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), School of Sciences on 27 February 2018, to celebrate 'National Science Day' which is observed every year on 28 February to mark the discovery of Sir C.V Raman.
The purpose of conducting the expo was to bring out hidden talents of students, creating an awareness on current trends in science, promoting interdisciplinary studies and to induce creative thinking in students. The science expo comprised of events that included Model Making, Craccidents, I Deduce, Debate, V-Make, Recall and Recite and War of the Senses.
The chief guest and keynote speaker of the day, Dr. Jayashree, an eminent Geologist and Research Associate at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research delivered a lecture on 'Changing Climate and Current Trends' during the event.
A large number of students from various colleges took part in events such as, Craccidents - a stand-up comedy which entertained everyone. During the event, self-made videos were played for V-Make which showcased creative ways in which various teams captured scientific phenomena, experiments and computer simulations.
Also, there were intense discussions on debunking facts v/s myths in Debate followed by other stimulating topics of discussion where participants spoke both for and against. Recall and Recite was related to objective correlative involving the use of scientific objects that got translated into a poem and an artwork thus it was a perfect blend of both art and Science. A final round of simulation involved the War of Senses of all foodies to find out the ingredients of various dishes.
The event witnessed tough competition among various colleges to win Rolling Trophy. With significant difference, Kristu Jayanthi College was awarded the Rolling Trophy of Kalopsia 2K18. There was an overwhelming response from all student participants which brought grand success to the event.
