Theatre festivals are rare opportunities for thespian artists as well as the theatre lovers to celebrate their passion and love for theatres. And the key to sustain this culture of art lies in inspiring and shaping the young talents. Along the lines of the same objective, Jain (Deemed-to-be University)’s Center for Management Studies (CMS) provided a platform for young theatre artists to display their talents.
At its 9th edition of the theatre fest ‘Abhinaya’, the college drew talents from premiere institutes across Karnataka. And the occasion was graced by notable theatre personalities and received remarkable responses. Renowned theatre artist Lakshmi Chandrashekhar, humorist Achyuth Rao Padaki and ‘Mangalore Hudgi Hubli Hudga’ serial fame actor Vijay and actress Radhika were present as chief guests.
Audiences basked in the eclectic talents on stage and there were constant loud cheers throughout all performances. Participants adapted famous novellas and stories based on social welfare for stage, using captivating theatrical expressions. In the final round of the fest, top three groups from AMC, SSMRV and Jain College - RR Nagar were selected and performed Nimmitta, Suttikondare sarpa, Abhiyaana respectively. The contest ended on an intriguing note with the top three teams vying with their best efforts. And finally SSRMV college team bagged the first prize.
Speaking about ‘Abhinaya-2017’ Lakshmi Chandrashekhar said, “Theatre is a reflection of life, and fests like ‘Abhinaya’ helps the upcoming artists to recognize the vitality of such reflection. The artists need to be more persistent and flawless to achieve the perfection. And I appreciate CMS for taking this great initiative by conducting ‘Abhinaya’. Theatre is like ‘home-made food’, and the reality shows, movies are all like hotel-food which may taste delicious but not as fresh and delightful as the home-made food that is how theatre is. One should keep on participating in several shows to acquire the theatre knowledge abundantly.”
One of the participants, Kalpitha said, “I am very much excited for taking part in ‘Abhinaya’. It provided a great platform to exhibit our talents.”
CMS has been conducting ‘Abhinaya’ since 2008 with an aim to offer a unique opportunity for all the thespian artists to showcase varied form of creative skills and artistic expression.
