Center for Management Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) hosted its yearly junior inter-collegiate fest ICON, for the 12th Standard CBSE, ISC and 2nd PUC students, on the 9 September 2017 at the college campus. Upholding the brand name of the institute, the event aimed at empowering young minds and spanned across subjects like business, media, and culture. Challenging the mind, body, and intellect, this youth fest also explored business and leadership potential in young India.
Participation enthralled colleges from all over and to name a few it consisted of Jain International Residential School (JIRS), Christ Junior College, Christ PU College, Jain VV Puram, Jain JC Road, Jain Jayanagar, Jain Heritage School, Kumarans, Mount Carmel College, and Jyoti Nivas College. With four key events lined up for the youngsters, the Best Manager, Business Plan, Rep-tech (media event) and the treasure hunt created a stir of fun, laughter, learning and exploring!.
While the Treasure Hunt was a fun filled event that required the participants to crack riddles and run around the campus, and the quickest on their feet would be crowned champion. Rep-tech acted as a platform to showcase the student's skills in the field of Journalism. They were tested on their reporting and writing acumen during the first part of the event where the budding journalists asked to report Martin Luther King's speech, 'I have a dream'. This was followed by a task to make a video on the Life in Bengaluru. Allotting a radius of 4 kilometers around the campus, they were asked to click pictures, interview people, and take down information about the lives of Bengalureans.
The Business plan tested them on their business and entrepreneurship skills, and they were asked to come up with a product or service that would help create a wave of newness in the Indian markets. The students came up with products such as soles which were replaceable and interchangeable depending on the terrain and showerheads that increase the Vitamin C content in your bath water. These ideas had to be backed up with marketing and finances that are essential for every start-up.
Lastly, the Best Manager was held with 4 rounds. The Aptitude test was conducted to see how well they could think and how high their IQ was. This was followed by the Human Resource events where the students were put in the position of HR managers and tested on how well they deal with problems within a certain firm. The Marketing round which had the Brand Wars, where the participants were tested on their knowledge of companies and their competition. The Business Quiz had the participants on their toes for on their business acumen and their knowledge on current affairs. The fifth round was a rapid fire bidding round where the participants were allotted a fixed amount of money and asked to bid on properties all across Bengaluru based on their valuation and a rating index known to them. The top three proceeded on the stage and were tested on their creative and logical thinking. The round also included elements of crowd entertainment and general awareness and rebuttal skills. The coveted title of the Best Manager Icon 2017 was won by Heth Mehta from JIRS.
The fest was exciting and a great learning exposure for young minds to challenge themselves and excel in their various fields of interest. The students of JIRS bagged the Overall trophy. The event concluded with distribution of prizes to winners.
