Department of Economics Organized a Student Exchange Program

Jain (Deemed-to-be University)'s Department of Economics of School of Humanities and Social Sciences organized a two-day student exchange program for BA students of Chowgule College of Arts and Science, a leading educational institution in Goa on 22-23 November 2017.

On the first day, Dr.Xavier V K delivered the welcome address. Mr.Shyam Kumar from the admissions office gave an overview of Jain (Deemed-to-be University). Mr. Vishnu Alasinger and Ms. Stesa Pereira conducted economics quiz for the students and prizes were distributed to the winners.

On the second day, Dr.Xavier V K Professor of Economics, while addressing on the need for economics and opportunities for the economists, emphasized on the importance of learning the subject which helps to enhance the income of individuals and society making it essential for improving the standards of living.

Mr.Subhenoy from the placement department addressed on placement opportunities for the students which was followed by the visual presentation of the curricular and co-curricular activities of the department by Dr. Jennifer Fernandes.

Dr.Salma Begum, Professor, Economics at Maharani College, in her special session highlighted the difference between theory and practical aspects while elaborating the various opportunities for the field of economics.

During the program, students were divided into four groups wherein they had a brainstorming session on the issue of traffic management in Bengaluru. Students came up with a lot of interesting ideas ranging from the odd-even number plate system to car-pooling, tiered roads, cable cars, and separate lanes for cycles, expansion of the metro network to shifting of the commercial part in order to divert the traffic.

This was followed by Prof. Samantha Coutinho who explained the Bloom's taxonomy model to the audience. Dr.Kaiser Ahmed then addressed the gathering. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Stesa Pereira.
