Under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Forum of Federations (FoF), the Pro Vice Chancellor of Jain (Deemed-to-be University), Dr. Sandeep Shastri, was the Chief Consultant at a series of Workshops held in Yangon, Myanmar in January 2016.
In collaboration with Byada Institute, the Forum organized a Workshop on Federalism for a select group of fifty newly elected members of Parliament and State Legislatures from 15 to 17 January 2016.
The Workshops discussed a range of themes which included 'Democracy and Transitions', 'Federalism and Decentralization in New Democracies', 'Unity and Diversity in Federal Democracies' and the like. Each sessions had extensive discussions initiated by the participants in the workshop.
The Workshop had elaborate and well planned Group Work sessions with participation by all the delegates and extensive discussions on contemporary issues in Myanmar's current transition.
There were also two Review Sessions with Trainers who had previously undertaken a Train the Trainers (TOT) Workshop and had carried forward the discussion on Democratization, Federalism, and Decentralization across the country. Trainers shared their experiences and gained valuable inputs and insights from the International Resource Persons on how to take the learnings forward. It was heartening to note that the trainers had completed their tasks with diligence and sincerity and contributed richly to the dialogue across the country.
