Inaugural Session of the Refresher Course – An insight into Microbiology and Molecular Biology

The inaugural session of the Refresher Course- An insight into Microbiology and Molecular Biology organized by the Department of Microbiology, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) was held on 2 January 2019. The course is sponsored and supported by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore; Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and the National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.

35 participants comprising of University teachers and research scholars are participating in this course. The 14-day course will comprise of lectures and deliberations by eminent resource persons from premier institutions from Bangalore like CNBRCD, NCBS, IISc, GKVK, NBAII-ICAR, CFTRI, Mysuru and BARC, Mumbai.

Dr. Srividya Shivakumar, Course Coordinator, Professor and Head, PG Department of Microbiology delivered the welcome address and gave a glimpse into the research activities and achievements of the Department since its inception in 2003 till date. The honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. N. Sundararajan, gave the participants an idea about the impressive journey of the University from its days of inception. He emphasized upon how the University nurtures its faculty members and students in their pursuit of knowledge and constantly inculcates a strong research culture.

As a part of the felicitation, Dr. K.N. Varalakshmi, Director, School of Sciences spoke about the achievements of the center and explained how the participants could benefit themselves from the expertise of the faculties at the PG departments, School of Sciences.

The Course Director and INSA Hon. Scientist, Dr. D.J. Bagyaraj addressed the participants, illustrating how the above mentioned National Academies support the bright minds in their quest for a science career.
