Jain (Deemed-to-be University) builds model of INS Vikrant to mark 70th Independence Day

The 22 feet replica of the warship not only rekindles the wartime memories but also establishes the fact that patriotism is still alive in the minds of millennials. The concept to build the warship model is developed by the animation department of Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and it took one month to complete the structure.

Talking about this initiative Dinesh Damodaran, HoD of Animation Department, said, "Students of Animation Department have come together to build a model of INS Vikrant R11 to showcase the significance of this warship. Every year we come up with some new initiative to observe the Independence Day in our university and this year we conceptualized this idea to evoke the memories related to our freedom war."

In keeping with the new UGC norm released by the HRD Ministry to observe a fortnight-long Independence Day from August 9 to 23, the department has put the model of the warship in display from 13th August and will continue to project it till August 23.

Professor Somshekhar VK, Visual Art Faculty in Animation Department, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), said, "It took total 40 days to build this model of INS Vikrant and 25 students were engaged to make this thing happen. We closely studied the structure and design of the original warship and then started with sketching and sectional drawing and then implemented them in designing the model. We tried to replicate all the significant details and bring 90 percent of likeness in to the model."

Hemant Raj, a student of Visual Art Animation enthusiastically spoke about the experience of the entire team engaged in building the model of this warship. He said, "Before building the model we had a pre-production of nearly fifteen days. We studied very closely the history of INS Vikrant and went through all of its details and then built a base for the model."

The model of the INS Vikrant R11 has been put on display from 13th August at the JGI Knowledge Campus. A number of special activities have been slated for 15th August to mark the Independence Day apart from flag hoist, which include a video session on INS Vikrant and a 10 minute talk on this historical warship.
