Manasa K, pursuing Ph.D. in Chemistry at the Centre for Nano and Material Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), won the Karnataka State Women’s Chess Championship with a score of 7 points out of 9 rounds. She was tied with 3 others for the top place but due to better tie-break score Manasa was declared as the champion. The event was organized by Mandya Chess Academy under the auspices of United Karnataka Chess Association (UKCA) from 13th to 15th May 2016 at Gandhi Bhavan, Mandya. 68 players from all over Karnataka took part in this championship out of which 27 were International (FIDE) rated players. Manasa has the credit of clinching State Women’s title 4 times. At present, she tops the list of female players in Karnataka with the highest FIDE Rating points.
