National Conference on Translation - Issues in Language and Culture

The Department of English, School of Commerce Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Organized a National Conference on Translation - Issues in Language and Culture.

The conference had four sessions:

In the first session, Dr. Vanamala Vishwanath, Visiting Professor, Azim Premji University, spoke about the problems that arise in the practice of translation and demonstrated it using her work Harish Chandra Kavya. Her paper was titled “Cultural Difference in Translation”.

In the second session Prof. Rajendra Prasad, Professor, Department of English and Communication, Dravidian University, Kuppam, spoke about being a mediator in the act of translation from source to the target language in his paper “Translation as a Mediating means of Cross Cultural and Linguistic Communication and the Gaps and Leaps thereof”.

Post lunch, the conference had parallel paper presentation sessions shared by Dr. Mythili Rao, Dean of Languages, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and Dr. Sreedevi Santosh, Head, Department of English, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) respectively. We had in total eleven paper presenters, divided into two parallel sessions, who put forth their views on Translation: Issues in Language and Culture.

The final session was the plenary session. Dr. Vivek Dhareshwar, Scholar-in-residence, Srishti School of Arts, Design, and Technology gave the plenary talk.

The conference had participants coming in as delegates, who were from a different walk of life, both academic and non-academic.
