Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2016 was celebrated at School of Graduate Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University)

It is observed on 31st October of every year to commemorate the birth of Sardar Vallabai Patel who was also one of the founding leaders of Republic of India. Celebration of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is intended at providing us an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and resilience of our nation to withstand the actual and potential threats to the unity, integrity and security of our country. The theme for 2016 celebrations is “Integration of India”.

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas 2016 Celebrations at SGS was a three day long event planned by the Cultural Forum for the faculty members and students of Under-graduation. The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations were held during 15th November to 18th November 2016. The cultural forum organized competitions like Essay Writing, Elocution and T-shirt Designing for the students 15th and 16th November 2016. The theme for the competition being National Integration saw huge participation. The topic for essay writing and elocution competition was ‘Relevance of National Integration in Today’s Scenario’. The young minds who participated tackled the topic from various viewpoints wherein they argued upon the presence of diversity not just in Religion, Caste, Language but also cultural and economic aspects as well. It was interesting to see the young minds highlight and stress on the need to accept and acknowledge the presence of diversity in various aspects in a country like India and emphasized on the need on educating and creating awareness in people about remaining unified amidst all the differences and thus deal with threats and insecurities approaching the country from outside as one unified force.

The T-shirt Designing competitions the creative minds come together and represent their understanding of National Integration with an artistic perspective and depicted the same as beautiful drawings and paintings. These events were judged and best three participants were awarded with prizes during the common event held on 18th November 2016.

A huge gathering of students and teachers alike came together to commemorate the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas in the conference Hall of the campus. The commemoration program was presided by dignitaries like Dr. Asha Rajiv, Director, SGS, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) and Dr. Mythili P Rao, Dean Languages and Co-coordinator Research, Jain (Deemed-to-be University). The teachers dressed in their traditional attire assembled under the common roof to show their support to the need for National Integration. The program began with invoking the Lords blessings followed by a talk on ‘The understanding the different levels of National Integration’ by Dr. Mythili P Rao, Dean Languages and Co-coordinator Research, Jain (Deemed-to-be University). An orator par excellence Dr. Mythili touched upon the difference in viewpoint of understanding the true nature of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas through the varying generations of Individual. Dr. Mythili kept the audience in awe with her very thought provoking ideologies and opinions. Following this was a mesmerizing mime performance by the fourth semester students of Forensic Science. The mime group very effectively showcased to the audiences the true essence of Unity in Diversity. The students of BA performed a heart touching rendition of the famous song ‘Make the world a better place’ which was joined in by the audience as well. The program ended with the prize distribution for various events by dignitaries and the rendition of the National Anthem.
