The Department of Physical Sciences, School of Graduate Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), comprising Physics, Mathematics, Electronics and Computer Science organized a two-day national conference on “Recent trends in Physical Sciences – RTPS 16” on 25 and 26 February 2016. The Vice Chancellor of Jain (Deemed-to-be University), Dr. N. Sundararajan, inaugurated the conference on 25 February at 9:30am.
Prof. Vittal Rao, Senior Scientist, CEDT – IISC, Bangalore, delivered the keynote address. He captivated the audience with his apt references to the recent trends in Physical Sciences and elucidated on the historical marriage of Mathematics and Physics, and its repercussions during the preindustrial era.
After the inauguration, there were two interdisciplinary sessions. The first one was by Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Pro Vice Chancellor, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), and the second one was by Prof. Siddhartha Gadgil, Department of Mathematics, IISC, Bangalore. The post-lunch session had around 50 paper presentations put together by all the four departments.
The second day had plenary talks by eminent personalities like Dr. Vinay Hedge, RVCE, Bangalore; Shiva Kumar H M, Educationist and Head of ITBTNT Solutions, Bangalore; and Dr. Ranjini Bandyopadhyay, RRI, Bangalore. The conference proceedings were released as special issues of Pariprashna – the academic journal of Jain (Deemed-to-be University). It contained nearly 50 articles and was released in three issues. A book of abstracts of the papers presented in the conference was also released.
