School of Graduate Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) bid adieu to its final year students

The month of March, April marks an important moment in the life of students. It not only heralds in the final exams but also marks the end of an academic year. Although these months can create a dreadful feeling for most students, it can also be a very emotional one for few of them at least the students in the final year of their course. These months are also the time when one looks back and remembers nostalgically their happy, sad, victorious moments in college.

The Cultural Forum, School of Graduate Studies, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), recently hosted the ‘Valedictory Function’ for the passing out batch 2013-16 students of BA, B.Sc in ID, B.Sc.- Physical Sciences, B.Sc. - Life Sciences & B.Sc- Forensic Sciences courses.

Inaugurated by Dr. R. Shanti Iyer, Director, SGS, JU the function began with an invocation song followed by Valedictory address. This year’s function was unique and stood apart from the rest as the function was presided over by 5 different valedictorians addressing the gathering. One eminent faculty member from each stream addressed the gathering and passed on beautiful messages with respect to the vistas, opportunities, challenges etc. awaiting the students in each of their fields. The valedictorians included Dr. Asha Rajiv, Head, Dept. of Physics & Director, IQAC; Dr. Veena Nagaraj, Head, Dept. of Chemistry & Forensics & Convenor, RDC; Dr. Rekha Sinha, Head, Dept. of Interior Design and Mr. Sachin Tantry, Head, Dept. of Arts. The students were also addressed by Dr. Rajani Jairam, Dean, Student Welfare, JU where madam beautifully summarized the speeches by the respective heads and ended it with a wonderful message for the students to take with them.

Following the address, deserving students were awarded for their performances throughout the academic year. Several categories of awards were given away like Best Outgoing Student, Academic Excellence, 100% attendance, Maximum Participation & Winning, Inter-collegiate Competitions and Outstanding Achievements. The deserving students were also awarded for their contributions to NCC, NSS and sports as well. Cultural programmes were also arranged along with award functions where students and teachers together got an opportunity to express their feelings to the passing out batch either by means of singing, dancing, instrumental performances, etc. The highlight of the program was the flute performance by Mr. Ananth Y N, head, Dept. of Computer Sciences who mesmerised the gathering with an enthralling performance. Also a mime performance was put forward by the first year forensic students, who passed on the message of ‘how mobile phones can wreak havoc to relationships and people’. The cultural programmes ended by all the faculty members singing some wonderful numbers in Hindi and dedicating the same to the passing out batch.

The day ended with class pictures being taken of students, teachers together. Dressed in colourful ethnic attire the passing out batch were seen to have a wonderful time overall and are sure to carry beautiful nostalgic memories of their stay in SGS, JU.
