As part of Words of Wisdom, series Department of Forensic Science, School of Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a guest lecture on 'Autopsy' on 21 September, 2017 in the campus premises. The Guest Speaker of the day was Dr. Naveen, Associate Professor, Dept. of Forensic Medicine, KIMS, Bengaluru.
Addressing the students, the speaker discussed the definition of Autopsy, terminologies and its various categories. Enlightening the students about the reason behind conducting the Autopsy, the speaker said that it is conducted to know medically the cause of death, the manner of death, time since death and to establish identity to collect physical evidence etc.
The speaker in his talk discussed the different techniques of conducting Autopsies like Letulle, Virchow, Ghon, Rokitansky and also briefed about conducting an external post-mortem examination such as careful examination of the body, clothing, external injuries, artifacts and internal examinations like a skull, thorax, and abdomen.
In the course of the session, he explained about the laboratory procedures to be conducted during the internal post-mortem examination like histopathology, bacteriological examination, and virological examination.
At the end of the session, the speaker also taught the students on how to write a post-mortem report. The informative session concluded with a vote of thanks to the speaker.
