Department of Biochemistry, School of Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a Guest Lecture on 'Engineering meets Biology and Medicine' on 16 September, 2017 in the college premises. The speaker of the day was Dr. Sudhir Ranganath, Bio INvENT, Lab, SIT Tumakuru.

Dr. Sudhir began the session by enlightening the students on the perspective of mesenchymal stem cells in therapeutics. He spoke on the advantages of stem cells by explaining in detail his postdoc work which is an integration of Engineering and Basic Sciences on biomaterial based on nanotechnology that could effectively prevent differentiation of cardiac fibroblasts to myofibroblasts.

Further, he discussed his current work on assessing corneal health by addressing issues like corneal dysfunction, dry eye disease and oxygen sensing using CLICS (contact lens impregnated with carbon dots).

Students were enlightened to know about the importance of research and its translational applications for human health. He also spoke about doctoral and internship possibilities in his lab which opened opportunities for the students.

To conclude, it was an eye-opener for students to pursue their passion with the amalgamation of different subjects.
