School of Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) Organizes a Guest Lecture on Areas of Forensic Science, Theory and Practice

As a part of 'Words of Wisdom' series, Department of Forensic Science, School of Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) organized a guest lecture on 'Areas of Forensic Science, Theory and Practice' on 12 September, 2017 for M.Sc. Forensic Science students. The guest speaker of the day was Dr. B. Ashoka, Professor, and Head of Department, Criminology and Forensic Science, School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, Mangalore.

Addressing the students, the speaker who is efficient in handwriting analysis, explained how the signature analysis in the questioned document is done and how important it is to be cautious while carrying out an analysis which can affect the life of a person. Hence, the experts need to examine a single signature more than 30 admitted signatures. The speaker also recalled various disputed cheque cases which he encountered during his tenure as a handwriting analyst and shared his experience with students.

Further, the speaker while talking about forensic science field opined that it requires immense field practice rather than textbook knowledge and advised students to gain practical knowledge.

The speaker stressed on having a pre-determined mind while studying the Forensic Science course. He also stated that the forensic expert should be open-minded while dealing with cases.

He encouraged the students to become entrepreneurs and start their own firm to provide more forensic experts to the country. Dr. Ashoka also highlighted the importance of working on a theory and coming up with a conclusion. During the session, the speaker also recollected his experience in courts.

The session concluded with students a Q & A session with felicitation to the speaker by the faculty members of the Forensic Science department.
