On the account of ‘World Environment Day’, School of Commerce, Jain (Deemed-to-be University), celebrated ‘Vapana’ – a campaign to enrich greenery in the society, on 8 June 2019. “Reversing deforestation is complicated; planting a tree is simple.” Martin O'Malley, an American poet’s words were in action today at our campus, as the young students were keen on learning and making ‘Seed Balls’ for environmental rejuvenation.
It was flagged off with the support of Dr. Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, Managing Trustee, Adamya Chetana Foundation, Bangalore, Dr. B.A. Vasu, Center Head, School of Commerce Studies, and Dr. B.T. Venkatesh, Director - PU Programs, Jain (Deemed-to-be University).
The motive of the campaign is to encourage afforestation by sowing ‘Seed Balls’ in the barren forest areas with the help of NCC and NSS students associated with various trekking groups in the city. As a part of this one-month campaign, in association with Green Life, an NGO, nearly 2000 seed balls were made out of 1 lakh and distributed for sowing.
Dr. Tejaswini Ananth Kumar supported the motive by stating that jackfruit trees are essential to be harvested for generating 700 Kgs of oxygen to breathe in a developing city like Bangalore. She encouraged the students to take part in ‘Green Sunday’ of Adamya Chetana Foundation, which does tree plantation in any urban area to bring back greenery. The event was witnessed to be successful through enthusiastic NCC and academic students in making and distributing seed balls.
