As a part of its curriculum, JU-SET’s the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering recently organized Skill Development (SDP) program on 'Industrial Automation' titled 'Advanced Transformer Design & Testing' to impart knowledge on the recent developments in industries relevant to this core branch.
The 180 hour program was conducted from 5 to 9 February 2018 in collaboration with ‘Sara Consultants’. The speakers of the day were Shri T V Ramaswamy and Shri Hiriyannaiah who has rich experience in transformer design and consultation for plenty of industries within and outside the state.
The session threw a light on the basics of transformers, design, and working of transformer with the specifications- 100 KVA Aluminium, 11000/433 V, Oil cooled for the latest requirement (5 Star rated) and its applications; 100 KVA Copper, 11000/433 V, Oil cooled for the latest requirement (5 Star rated) with demonstration and experiments; 100 KVA Copper, 11000/433 V, Dry type, Vacuum Pressure Impregnated - class F with a comparative study on other specifications with theoretical and practical differences between them. The program was then followed by an industrial visit to substation 66/11 KV where students learned about real-time designing and implementation of a transformer.
During the session, Dr. Hariprasad S. A, Director at JU-SET emphasizing the importance of such Industry Institute interaction besides the academic activities which are on par with the global standard of the education system, insisted the students to actively participate in such training for better outcomes.
The SDP helped students to understand general design principles of a transformer, standards used in the design practice, different design procedures for the various types of transformers, various testing methods for different types of transformers based on IEC standards and to design a transformer for a given specification.
