Skill Development workshop for Ph.D. and M.Phil. scholars of August 2015 batch

The Skill Development program is an integral part of the Course Work for Doctoral and M.Phil. scholars at Jain (Deemed-to-be University).

Fifty scholars from the August 2015 batch participated in the Skill Development program organized on 1st and 2nd July 2016. The program had a range of inter-related activities which allowed the participants to reflect on their research journey and focus on the road ahead.

The first day was focused on individual presentation styles while the second day looked at collaborative work in research. During one of the activities on the day two, the participants were asked to work in five groups of ten members each. Past experience has shown that this activity is usually the highlight of the workshop since it allows participants to not only work in individual groups thus emphasizing team work (in research) but also collaboration among different teams. During the feedback session, many participants endorsed the same. One of the groups said that they ‘developed and maintained a cordial relationship with all groups, especially with one of the groups with whom we shared some material and got some in return’. Yet another group termed the group work as a ‘challenging and exciting experience. Our focus was on creativity and we were surprised at the result we got within the strict time duration’. A third group opined that, ‘Life is a journey, filled with little pockets of joy and today we presented five such pockets through our five group activities’.

Four faculty members were involved in conducting the workshop. They included Dr. Sandeep Shastri, Dr. Shailaja Shastri, Dr. Sowmya Puttaraju and Dr. Reetika Syal.
