“The very striving and hard work that we so constantly try to avoid is the major building block in the person we are today. So, shun it all.”
As cadets of 1 Coy of Jain (Deemed-to-be University), it was an immense honor to be a part of The Swacch Bharath Week activity initiated by the P.M of India - Sri.Narendra Modi himself as on 28th September, 2016. All N.C.C cadets of the nation were to take part and as always Jain (Deemed-to-be University) amps up the ante’.
The day began with the cadets assembling at the JC Road campus at 7:30 a.m. A warm-up session with instructions was done by Capt. Rekkha Sinha followed by CSUO - Sonia.D. With the concern of hygiene and cleanliness, surgical masks and gloves were given as protection to the cadets. The decision was made to clean up the streets of the buzzing K.R.Market. At about 9:00 a.m., the cadets left for the activity in groups of 5 with a senior cadet leading them with all enthusiasm and were committed to making a change for the day.
Despite the shortage of brooms for sweeping up the place, a few shopkeepers around the area were gracious enough to have provided us with what was essential and the cadets went head-on with their activity. With such Zeal, The cadets cleaned up about half the busy market area.
Anyone who supports the volunteer work is deemed a man of service and we were encouraged today by a good number of civilians for the activity. Looking at our hard work, a worker at the market offered us tea and joined us in cleaning up the area. An old woman without much education walked up to us to commend us on the work that was being done by the cadets and we were requested to write a letter of request to the BBMP authorities to have the K.R.Market area cleaned up at least once a week. Another woman happened to appreciate us beyond words separating us from any other authorities that failed to make an impact on the society for so long, whereas the cadets did it in such a short span. With such support from the citizens, the cadets spurred on with their work. A lot of other appreciation hailed in from many more citizens and ensuring that with cadets like us “the country is made better for tomorrow”.
Any activity that takes a good deal of field work requires apt guidance in traffic and management. With a traffic policeman helping us out by controlling the day’s traffic for us to properly cross from one road to another, our work went on smoothly. The activity went on for 4 hours with the cadets only doing their work with all sincerity and all keen citizens only commending us for making a better future. Overall, the day was thoroughly enjoyed by the cadets with only their hard work and sweat paying off to be appreciated by keen citizens.
