Dr. C.S Vivek Babu, Senior Scientist, CSIR_CIMAP, Bangalore, visited CPGS Campus Jain (Deemed-to-be University) to deliver a session on "Endophytic Microorganisms for Sustainable Cultivation of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants". His talk covered the immense potential in sustainable agriculture by using endophytes association with medicinal plants thereby enriching the host plant leading to increased production of certain important metabolites with immense therapeutic value. For demonstrating the above concept he shared the work done at CIMAP illustrating two model plants, Tulsi and Vinca rosea.
The other aspect on which the speaker threw light was the soft pesticides viz. spinocyn technology developed from microbial source to alleviate the current environmental and health problems caused due to conventional chemical pesticides. He highlighted the market potential of these kind of products and discussed the course of development of this pesticide which would indeed revolutionize the modern day agriculture.
The speaker concluded his session with a message to 'Work faster and smarter' and 'Research Time is Money, Use it effectively'.
