Workshop on Internet of Things

JU-SET's the Department of Computer Science and engineering in association with DigitLabz organized the workshop on Internet of Things on 2 and 3 March 2018 for fourth and sixth semester Computer Science students. The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Bharat, Design Engineer at DigitLabz graced the occasion.

The key objectives of the workshops were to provide hands-on project based learning on building IoT based smart home automation devices; to learn designing and interfacing IoT hardware with sensors and I/O device; to use internet and cloud services to control, monitor and build smart systems.

The speaker began the session with introduction to IoT, introduction to Embedded System and Microcontrollers, details about IoT hardware platform, setup and configuration of IoT Hardware/ Software.

During the session, the speaker showed students how to interface and implement sensors to safeguard and secure home. Interfacing relays with IoT board, Turn ON/OFF home appliances using relay and IoT Board. How to connect IoT hardware to existing home lighting, how to use web and mobile to monitor and control devices. He also taught them, how to use cloud services for IoT in sending and receiving sensor data via cloud.

Further he educated them on how to access sensor data on a phone and computer, how to configure Gmail to work with IoT hardware and cloud and send E-mail alerts for sensor triggers from IoT hardware, send SMS alerts from IoT device, receive status of appliances and devices on E-mail.

During the workshop students worked on mini IoT projects thus gained the knowledge on a setup, installation and other project environment parameters.

The insightful session concluded with vote of thanks to the speaker and feedback from students.
