Recap 2020: A Review of Some Significant Moments at Jain (Deemed-to-be University)

As the world entered into a phase of chaos and uncertainty at the beginning of the year, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) community found new ways to come around the challenges to learn, work, and create an impact. Confronted with ambiguity, the faculty, staff, and students underwent the daunting task of completing the syllabus and staying connected. Nevertheless, each one persevered. The faculty swiftly remodeled their teaching methodology and adapted to the digital avenues as their mode of delivery while the students adjusted to the new learning system. Steadily, the University moved wholly online. To keep the students engaged and help them assimilate new skills along with their course schedule, various webinars hosted by renowned industry leaders and speakers were organized by the University.

Amidst all this, the Jain (Deemed-to-be University) found some distinguished accomplishments to honor. And as we bid adieu to 2020, here’s some moments that have forever made their imprint on each one of us here at the University:

The University welcomed Prof. (Dr.) Raj Singh as its new Vice Chancellor

Centre for Research in Social Sciences and Education (CERSSE) in association with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) jointly organized a two-day conference on Governance and Gender Parity: Prospects and Challenges, on February 8 and 9, 2020.

The Enactus forum at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), in collaboration with Srinivasan Service Trust (A CSR arm of TVS), organized a community empowering program at Gudalur, a taluk in Tamil Nadu. Vaishnavi – 1st semester BMS (Branding) and Vishak Jyoti – 1st-semester (Honors) were the two students from the Enactus forum who came with an innovative idea as a part of their project called Upcycling.

Michael V L Chhandama, a Ph.D. scholar working under the guidance of Dr. Kumudini Belur Satyan, Department of Biotechnology, School of Sciences (Block-I), was selected for the first online Asia Pacific Youth Exchange (APYE) Global Social Innovation Idea Competition co-organized by United Nations Development Programme and Asian Development Bank. Michael was selected based on his "Statement of Proposal" and merit at APYE, Thailand earlier this year in January with full funding.

Later in the year, Michael also won won the The NEST Bio-Innovation Challenge 2020 under the “Academic Category” in "Biofuels and Biofertilizers" domain, rganized by Mizoram University (MZU).

The Enactus Forum at Jain (Deemed-to-be University), in association with the Enactus Forum of IIT Delhi, embarked on a mission to secure the health and safety of thousands of frontline warriors working non-stop to keep us safe. The Forum, under the banner “Together We Care” worked zealously to procure face-shields and distribute them amongst the healthcare soldiers in various districts of Karnataka.

University signs over 15 new MoUs with several industries and leading global institutions

Archana Kamath, a student pursuing BA Economics (Final Year) at School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Jain (Deemed-to-be University) won the championship title in both Youth Girls and Women’s categories at the Karnataka State Table Tennis Championships held on December 12-13, 2020.

Jainite Adithya Patel impresses the Netizens with his one minute impactful short film titled "Centrifugal".

Devika Srikanth, a student at School of Humanities & Social Sciences, won the Bangalore Mountain Festival (BMF) Triathlon Competition held on November 22, 2020.

Shamsia, an alumni of CMS Business School, was the latest entrant in to the World Book of Records for creating the largest Mortier De Structure of Size: 120" × 120" inches.
