Welcome to the webpage of the Centre for Research in Functional Materials, where we are dedicated to advancing knowledge and finding innovative solutions to complex problems across various fields. Our diverse team of experts is committed to conducting high-quality research, collaborating with partners from academia, industry, and government, and translating our findings into practical applications that benefit society.

At our center, our primary focus is on developing advanced functional materials to address the scientific challenges faced by all life forms and the environment today. We have fostered a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages creativity, curiosity, and intellectual rigor, aiming to train the next generation of scientists, engineers, and entrepreneurs. Breakthrough Review Article on MXenes Published

We are pleased to share that Dr. Sutar Rani Ananda, Postdoctoral Fellow at CRFM, has published a research article in the prestigious journal Progress in Materials Science (Impact Factor: 40). The article, “Tailored architectures in desalination membranes with MXene: Is this the way forward?”, explores the design of MXene-based architectures for advanced desalination membranes, offering critical insights into addressing global water scarcity through innovative and sustainable materials. This work marks an important contribution to environmental materials science and underscores our community’s role in developing solutions to global challenges.

Shrinath Bhat served as a project intern at CRFM, where he demonstrated exceptional dedication and expertise. He has secured a PhD position at the University of Adelaide, Australia. This institution is a member of the Group of Eight, a coalition of Australia's most research-intensive institutions, and is renowned for attracting highly talented researchers, students, government, and industry partners. Mr Bhat has been awarded the University of Adelaide Research Scholarship for his potential. His PhD research will focus on the systematic monitoring and evaluation of PFAS immobilization in soil under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Shervin Kabiri. We are incredibly proud of Mr. Bhat's achievements and are confident that he will continue to excel academically. His dedication and passion for his field are truly commendable, and we look forward to his future contributions to the scientific community.

Award of MAECI Scholarship

Arvind Raj, Senior Research Fellow at CRFM, has been awarded the MAECI Scholarship by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allowing him to extend his research activities in Italy. His 6-month research at the University of Milan, guided by Professor Claudia L. Bianchi, focuses on use of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for the removal of polyphenols from contaminated water. This achievement underscores the significance of international collaboration in pushing the boundaries of scientific exploration.

Vishwanath R S joined CRFM as an assistant professor; before this position, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Chemical Sciences, Ariel University, Israel. Vishwanath did his Ph.D. in Chemical Science at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland, and secondment at Chuo University, Tokyo, Japan.
